Lower Netherton is a quiet hamlet of 5 houses close to the Teign estuary. Although sufficiently tucked away to deceive even the finest of navigation systems it is most conveniently situated … only two miles from the town of Newton Abbot and four miles from the beaches of Teignmouth and Shaldon. The photographs on our website give you a flavour of the lovely views to be enjoyed along TheTemplar Way, a spectacular walk stretching from Dartmoor to Shaldon which, for much of its length, follows the course of the River Teign that is just over the hill and round the corner from our door.

We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to be in such a peaceful rural location. Surrounded by cheeky badgers and foxes, beautiful herons, buzzards, little egrets and the occasional barn owl and yet within easy reach of Dartmoor, Exeter, Totnes, Torquay, Dartmouth and Plymouth and the wide variety of holiday attractions, leisure facilities, art galleries pubs and restaurants they provide. There is even a Sainsbury's supermarket and a contemporary riverside pub less than a 5 minute drive away.

Personally I have a great affection for Teignmouth with its long beach and a strand that is peppered with pretty flowerbeds and icecream opportunities. There is a well designed children's playground with swings and climbing frames and a large grassy area on which you can have a kick about or simply sitting on one of its many benches and watch a pretty good game of crown green bowls...and if you enjoy games on the pier then this little town is a must.

Shaldon is a pretty village at the mouth of the Teign estuary. The quant Georgian houses fight for space around the village green and stack one upon the other as the rock face on which they are built climbs from the beach at its base to the Botanical Gardens at its highest point. There is a popular nine hole pitch and putt that boasts a fabulous view across the river to Teignmouth and you can always blame the distracting screech of the little marmosets at Shaldon zoo when you miss the 4 foot putt that could have won you the match. The Ness beach at Shaldon nestles at the base of imposing red sandstone cliffs so reminiscent of this part of Devon and is accessed by an old smugglers' tunnel.

Totnes is a lively, bustling town that successfully manages to fuse the conventional with the alternative. It has wealth of individual clothes, jewelry and book shops and offers an inviting array of bars, restaurants and tea rooms. The Friday market is a must and if you enjoy river cruises, there's a smashing trip from Steamer Quay down to Dartmouth...not to mention a great steam train ride to Buckfastleigh.

Dartmouth is a favorite with everyone. The majestic naval college looks down over the pretty painted houses of the town, out to the castle and over the River Dart to Kingswear. The river is teeming with life and the town boasts some great restaurants and art galleries.

Exeter has recently undergone a major transformation. The smart and sensitively designed Princesshay development of offices, apartments, restaurants, and shops…Karen Miller, Hobbs, Zara, and Coast to name but a few…has given our lovely cathedral city a stylish edge.

My husband is a keen and pretty talented golfer. He plays a Teignmouth (a course designed by Dr Alister McKenzie of Augusta National fame that has stunning views) and he can recommend another 7 good quality courses within a 20 minute drive.
